Roles of the Artist

Fernand Léger, French, 1881-1955,  "The City" 1919
Oil on canvas
The Museum of Modern Art: Painting and Sculpture

This painting helps me see a city in a new way, not just buildings and structures.

This drawing presents the style for women in the Fifties.  Clothing is another way an artist can record time.

 photographs (circa 1920-1921)

This photograph has turned a functional object into an enjoyable experience. The dog makes the picture by turning a mode of transportation into family fun. Joy riding in the twenties.

Mary Macomber
Bearer of the Soul
1915
Oil on Canvas

The artist gives form to spiritual forces and personal feelings.  I believe in what I can't see of feel.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, what one thinks is beautiful does not necessarily mean that another has the same opinion.
